Efficient SQUID receiver

for ground-based exploration using TEM or MT techniques, opening up new performance potential through low noise and sensor sensitivity.

JESSY DEEP

The JESSY DEEP measurement system is a highly sensitive SQUID-based receiver for ground-based transient electromagnetics (TEM) measurements. For signal generation a transmitter system consisting of signal generator and field generation coil is still needed. The data of the SQUID controller can be recorded with any common geo-receiver (e.g., smarTEM24).

Within one measurement cycle (time after switching off the primary signal) the data can be recorded up to 10 times longer due to the use of SQUID magnetometers and their excellent combination of high sensitivity and low noise characteristics, as the usable signal-to-noise ratio is significantly better than with other sensor types. This increase in performance means that fewer averages of a station are required, which in turn significantly increases measurement progress.

Compared to the otherwise common coil sensors, information about objects from up to three times greater depths can be obtained due to the direct magnetic field measurement, which is a decisive advantage with regard to the decreasing availability of near-surface deposits. The resulting superiority in measuring particularly late response times even enables the collection of information on geological structures covered by conductive layers.

Advantages over conventional technology

direct measurement of the magnetic field

time variations decay faster and physically limit the measurement time per cycle

high magnetic field resolution

at low frequencies and flat frequency response up to 10 kHz

complete acquisition of all three orthogonal magnetic field components

allows use as a station for magnetotellurics and as a magnetic base station for various EM methods

possibility to use smaller transmitter coils

simplifies operational use and leads to better measurement progress
