R&D profile
Since the founding of supracon AG, the company has pursued systemic solutions. In this way, components such as electronics and quantum sensors have been developed into complex systems for various applications.
Supracon has a strong track record in transferring research and development activities into products and bringing them to market. In 2012, Supracon received the Thuringian Research Award for the successful transfer of research into the globally deployed JESSY DEEP system.
A significant future field for Supracon is superconducting quantum technologies. The company is very well positioned for the second generation of quantum technologies and is involved in researching innovative enabling technologies for quantum computers.
Geophysics
It is our vision to establish superconducting quantum sensing in geophysical exploration. In the field of ground-based transient electromagnetics, we have already achieved this. In cooperation with major mining companies such as Anglo American and DeBeers, innovative system solutions have been successfully researched over many years.
In our view, quantum sensors have the potential to set new standards in airborne exploration as well. With full tensor gradiometry, we have already achieved this through the QMAGT measurement system. However, this is only the beginning of a series of innovations that will emerge in the coming years.
Quantum metrology
In close collaboration with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig, Supracon has developed over the years into one of the select providers of primary voltage standard systems. Through intensive research and development, future-oriented solutions are being created that enable the calibration of AC voltages at higher frequencies and further increase calibration accuracy. Another focus of development is the user-friendly operation of our high-precision systems.
Quantum sensor technology
Quantum sensors are increasingly entering both research and industrial applications, such as radiation measurement in astronomy, current and magnetic field measurement in biomedicine, or radiation sensing for civil security technologies. Supracon also draws on many years of research expertise in the field of superconducting quantum sensors. Innovative sensor solutions and the associated sensor readout electronics are among the core competencies of Supracon’s R&D activities.
Microfabrication
Microfabrication technologies form the foundation of all our products and developments — whether quantum circuits for SQUIDs or voltage standard chips, superconducting thermally insulating flex cables for connecting qubits to the environment, or superconducting bolometers for security technology. The cleanroom is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for manufacturing innovative components and products and offers both current and future employees many opportunities to grow and develop.
