Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer

Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer (JAWS) are quantum-based generators with free programmable waveforms ranging from DC up to Gigahertz frequencies. Their unique features due to its quantum nature are a lowest level of noise and absolute highest level of long-term stability signals. Applications are manifold in industry and science, as for calibrations in metrology and the control of qubits for quantum computing as two examples.

Applications

JAWS circuits can be used for the following applications.

  • Primary arbitrary waveform generator

use the JAWS primary voltage source to generate quantum-based

    • DC voltages ranging from the nV range up to 100 mV,
    • pure sinusoidal voltages with AC frequencies from a few Hz up to the MHz range,
    • arbitrary voltage waveforms.
  • Free programmable waveform synthesis

uses the JAWS primary voltage source to calibrate external instruments such as:

    • DC samplers (e.g. Keithley 8182A nanovoltmeters) for extremely small voltages down to the nV range,
    • AC samplers (e.g. NI 5922 PXI AC samplers) for AC signal purity and dynamic gain,
    • AC voltage sources (e.g. Fluke calibrators) in a differential configuration between JAWS and the device under test.
